How to search for an item in the M.A.I.N. Catalog
On the catalog page, you can search without logging in by selecting a library from the drop-down menu. However, if you'd like to place a hold, you must log in. Log in by entering your 13-digit bar code (no spaces) followed by your PIN. If you do not know your PIN, please call us at 973-402-0900.
Search by keyword/keyword phrase or browse holdings from A to Z from the Quick Search menu. You can refine your search by choosing a specific library from the pull-down menu or search all libraries by selecting ALL. To complete your search, click on the appropriate blue button at the bottom of the Quick Search menu: words or phrases, author, title, subject, series, or magazine title.
The results list from your search might include books, books on CD or cassette, magazines, CDs or DVDs. A list of categories on the right-hand column helps you narrow down your search results. Please click here to watch a quick search tutorial video.
Switch to the Power Search screen by clicking the "Switch to Power Search" link at the bottom of the Quick Search menu or by clicking the Power Search link in the menu at the top of the page.
From the Power Search screen, you can refine your search in a number of ways: words or phrase, author, title subject, series, magazine title, or isbn number. Each line can then be combined through the use of the Boolean operators (And, Or, Not or XOR) in the right-hand column. For a description of Boolean operators and how to use them, click on the Help link in the top left of the screen, between the Go Back and Logout links.
The lower half of the search panel gives you additional options. You can narrow down the libraries searched, the language used, the format of the item (book, videos and DVDs, music recordings, maps, etc.), the appropriate age level and the year it was published. Please click here and here to watch a power search tutorial video.
Please go to M.A.I.N. (Morris Automated Information Network) and click on the "Help" drop-down menu.
