What is 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten?

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a national movement that aims to establish strong early literacy skills in young children. Libraries, schools, and other organizations participate in 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten by providing incentives to parents and children who read together.

How Does It Work?

Read any book to your newborn, infant, or toddler. If you read just 1 book each night, you will have read 365 books a year and if you read 3 books a night, that's 1,095 books a year!

How to Participate at the Library

Visit the library any time to sign up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. Participants will receive a welcome 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten packet and children will have their names posted in the Children's Area and can receive prizes after reaching specific milestones on their 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten journey. Call 973-402-0900 ext. 224 for additional information.
